As a manager, it’s your responsibility to set expectations for your employees. You may not realize that this is as much an art as it is a necessary science. There are many “right” ways to go about establishing your expectations, but there are also many negative approaches that could harm your relationships with your staff.

There are many different ways that people can get to an outcome, but sometimes listening to how and what a person thinks can help each person recognize the path forward. As long as you both agree on an outcome, and you have a slight understanding of the process being used, alignment can happen. Remember, there are different ways to approach a problem and your goal as a manager is to help.
